Chimera - Hybrid animals

"Every search for a hero must begin with something that every hero requires; a villain. Therefore, in a search for our hero, Bellerophon, we created a monster Chimera." - Excerpt from the movie MI-2.

From the Greek meaning "she-goat" the Chimera is a fire-breathing creature that has the body of a goat, the head of a lion and the tail of a serpent. Chimera ravaged the Greek city of Lycia until it was slayed by the prince of Corinth, Bellerophon.

I somehow felt that the word Chimera had a charm and attracted me and made me believe that it can't be a name for something evil. Only now I realised that, offlate, scientists have given this name to something else which is going to change the world in near future. Yes! Chimera now represents the hybrid animals which are used in human stem cells research.

Chimeras are animals that have human cells infused into them when they are foetuses. Now there are pigs that have human blood flowing through their veins; Sheeps whose livers and hearts are largely human; mice with human brain cells and immune systems. This stem cell technology will be a boon to humans in future when this technology matures and many people who need organ transplants will get benefitted by the chimeras.

But this technology is being criticised badly that it is against Nature and people should stop doing this. No one knows for sure how exactly this will be bad for the world but weighing the benefits I strongly feel this should continue and provide good result not only for human kind but to the whole world as such.
